On Mr. Smeeton’s retirement in 1908 the Office of Registrar and Titles was amalgamated with the Record Office/Registrar General Dept. and Mr. David Balfour – who had succeeded Mr. Smeeton – also became Registrar of Titles. He was the only Registrar General and Deputy Keeper to have this title for after his death in 1922 the Titles Office once again became a separate department. | | | | | |
