p. Letters of Administration (1710 – 1880) Grants of permission to persons to administer estates of persons dying in-testate. After 1880 these records were no longer sent to the Record Office.
q. Letters Testamentary (1716 – 1880) Grants of permission to Executors to administer estates of deceased persons leaving a will. After 1880 these records were no longer sent to the Record Office.
r. Writs of Extents (1755 – 1872) Writs to the Provost-Marshal authorizing him to take possession of land and tenements owned by one party in a dispute in settlement of damages and costs awarded the other party in the Grand Court. The Writ was issued after an earlier one to levy on goods and chattels was unsuccessful as the person had none in the island. The land was to be appraised by 12”…good and lawful men…”owning land in the area.
s. Drogging Bonds (1827 – 1838) These bonds relate to ships and vessels trading with or within the island. (‘Drogging’ comes from ‘Droger’ or ‘Drogher’ which is a small West Indian coasting craft). The operation of these vessels was closely controlled by Acts of the Assembly beginning with one in 1683 requiring all “Masters of Ships and Vessels to give Security in the Secretary’s Office”.
