Executive Committee (1854 –1867) – The Executive Committee was set up by the Act of 1854 (17 Victoria, chapter 29) which separated the legislative and executive functions of the old council. The records in this series include Minutes of the Committee itself, minutes of its Board of Works Department, letter books, correspondence and debates. e. Commissioners of Correspondence (1795 – 1834) – From the late seventeenth century Agents were appointed in London to watch over Jamaican interests at Whitehall. In 1732 a Committee of correspondence was set up to oversee and direct the work of the Agents. The size and composition of this body changed several times during the course of the century. The 1794 Agency Bill named as Commissioners of Correspondence the entire Council and Assembly. The records include Minutes and letter books. f. Commissioners for Forts, Fortifications, Public Buildings (1769 – 1783) –This body was created as an Act of December 1768 and was composed of the Governor, five members of the Council and six members of the Assembly. They were appointed for the “ordering and inspecting the works in and about the forts, fortifications and barracks of the islands.” This series contains has mainly minutes of meetings. g. Despatches (1725 – 1951) These records contain correspondence between the Governors and the Secretaries of State for the Colonies in London.
