Hi, I am in the process of building my family tree and am realizing how much I do NOT know about my history. Happening on this site was a pleasant surprise and I am hoping this will prove to be a helpful resource in my quest.

I really must extend congratulations to the Jamaica Archives and Records Department (JARD), especially the staff of the Access to Information Unit. The work you've realized so far is indeed tremendous..! Even though I'm no longer a part of the government's records management machinery, I'm well aware of the other things that are needed to realize a seamless ATI system. Please be encouraged by the efforts of the various persons in the RM Units who are all working towards achieving this goal..

All the best.. and please keep up the good work..

I was in Jamaica this past week visiting family and happened to drive by the Archives. I am currently working towards my Master of Library Sciences degree with a concentration in Archives. Long before this trip thought it would be wonderful if I could relocate to Jamaica. Needless to say it was very reassuring to see that Jamaica has this agency.

This website is a very good beginning, much useful information. However (specifically in reference to the Archives Unit), to be really useful to a remote researcher, it would need to have an on-line catalog of your collection. I realise this is an expensive undertaking, but maybe there is grant money available from international foundations or institutions.
Keep up the good work.

It is awe inspiring to see such a development in my country's repertoire; to have the ability to sit with my son and show him documentary evidence of Jamaica's vibrant history, without travelling, is exciting. Thanks JARD!!
